Been a while, and a lot has happened.
Most notably, I now live in a different state. In New Jersey, I felt like I was stuck in a bit of a rut and got the feeling it wouldn't change without a change in scenery. As a self-employed IT consultant with trouble keeping his professional plate full (or really containing anything at all most of the time) it was exceedingly easy to idle, and with a generous aunt and uncle providing food and shelter for me there wasn't a fire under my ass to change my level of income. I managed to make just enough to pay minimum payments on my credit cards and such, and sustained that for quite some time. Eventually, though, it felt time to make some kind of forward progress with my life.
So here I am. I landed in Herndon, VA (DC metro area for those unfamiliar) in late April and started what was actually my first formal job search. I brushed off my resume (well, more like rewrote it) for it's first real introduction to the world, hit some job boards, lined up some interviews, bought myself a new suit and I was off to the races. The race, it would seem, is much more like a marathon. My resume has since found it's way into the hands of what must by hundreds of companies by now, and I've been on more interviews than I can count.
Well, after several weeks of effort I've finally landed what is actually a pretty exciting opportunity as a web developer. It's a Cold Fusion development job, which is going to take a bit of studying on my part to refresh my memory on the language. That's cool..it's something I've been meaning to get back into anyway. I'm happy with the prospect. I found out earlier this week that I got the job, and I start on the 25th.
Unfortunately it's going to take a long time to dig myself out of this financial hole I've dug myself into, and I'm not entirely sure where to start. Need to move to VA "on paper" but can't really do much as far as registration until I can get my car inspected, and I can't do that until I fix my car...which will take quite a bit of money (in thousands at this point, I think..rather than in hundreds). It's going to take some time to get there.
But I'm making progress. I feel pretty good about that. I'm also thrilled to finally live somewhere that I could, in theory, order a pizza and have it delivered. You know..once I can afford it. Such a nice change from the very rural area of my previous address. I have just about any possible variety of food within a mile or two of my apartment. Variety is the spice of life.
Was glad a few weeks ago to make it out to catch the JP/QR show and hang with some cool peeps after the show. You cats need to make it back down sometime now that I have a new place to drink at...maybe watch another DVD. I'll try to keep myself out of trouble next time.
All for now. I think I'm probably posted-out for another 6 to 9 months.

I mean "hook up" in the non-carnal way.
You two can decide on the rest. :)

I'm still bummed we didn't get the chance to hang out more than we did. Good luck on your path, as well.
PS - it's nice on the outside! NJ can bite me.

You should've become a professional blogger...despite your intense aversion to posting. But hey, you could probably fabricate something better than that guy who managed to get slashdotted today.
